Capitol Riverfront Connections
Olin's Columbus CircleOLIN to Design Canal Park
OLIN, a landscape architecture firm from Philadelphia, PA, has been selected from a group of seven firms, to design Canal Park.  With a focus on low-impact features and stormwater management systems, Canal Park will include solar panels on lightpoles and possibly neighboring buildings that will help the park reach the goal of "zero net energy".  A new pavilion, a cafe and a possible summertime fountain and wintertime ice skating rink are also being considered as part of the new design.  The schoolbuses will leave the site in early June and construction will begin early 2010, with completion in 2011.  OLIN is well-known for designing the park space around the Washington Monument, the National Gallery Sculpture Garden, and NYC's Bryant Park and Columbus Circle (pictured above).
