Opening Day at Nationals Ballpark
With almost a sell-out game (40,386 tickets sold out of a total 40,888), the Nationals kicked off their first home stand of the season with their first home game against the Phillies on Monday, April 13th at 3:05 pm. New large-scale statues of three past players greeted baseball fans at the Center Field Gate and new food options provided by Levy Restaurants were just some of the changes brought to Nationals Park for its second year. The ceremonial first pitches were thrown out by a representative from each of the five branches of the US armed services, followed by a fly-over of a fleet of military helicopters. Monday's game kicks off a week of home games with the Nats against the Phillies again on Wednesday and Thursday, and against the Marlins on Friday and Saturday. The new Circulator bus route runs extended service until midnight for fans to get to Barracks Row and up to Union Station after late afternoon or evening games.
