Ribbon CuttingRibbon Cutting at Capitol Quarter by EYA
On Wednesday, August 26th, Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, DC Housing Authority executive Michael Kelly, councilmember Tommy Wells along with other city officials, developers, and residents gathered for the ribbon cutting and grand opening at Capitol Quarter townhomes by EYA.  One of the largest Hope VI public housing replacement projects and the nation's largest LEED for homes certified for-sale neighborhood, Capitol Quarter includes a total of 160 townhomes in the first phase. Of the 113 market-rate and below market-rate for-sale units, 92 have been sold.  The townhomes combine classic DC rowhouse architecture with modern amenities and will include market rate homes, workforce homes and affordable rental homes. 
fall moviesOuter Space Fall Outdoor Movie Series
After its successful summer 80s movie series, the BID is excited to announce Outer Space as its first annual fall outdoor movie series.  The movies will be held every Thursday night at 7:30 pm beginning on September 10th and continuing through October 1st, and will be shown on the future site of Canal Park at M Street and 2nd Streets, SE.  Bring blankets and chairs, friends and family, and enjoy the movie with a dinner picnic!  The schedule is as follows:

September 10 - Star Wars
September 17 - Toy Story
September 24 - Spaceballs
October 1 - Apollo 13

 
Farmers MktNew Fall Farmers Market Begins September 16
Every Wednesday from 3 pm - 7 pm beginning on September 16th, stop by Canal Park at 2nd Street, SE, for fresh produce, veggies, breads, cheeses, and tastings!  Capitol Marketplace Events and the Capitol Riverfront BID's Farmers Market will feature 8 - 10 farmers and vendors each week at Canal Park, with unique cooking demos and a variety of tastings!  For more information visit  www.capitolmarketplaceevents.com or www.capitolriverfront.org
 
badmintonCanal Park Picnic & Front Door Home Tour
Mark your calendars for September 19th for the first annual Canal Park Picnic & Front Door Home Tour from 10 am - 2 pm.  The Canal Park community picnic will feature the band Cazhmiere playing from 12 - 2 pm, free food from Smokin' Somethin' BBQ, and lawn games including ladder golf, badminton, volleyball, and hula hoops!  Bring your own favorite backyard games, as well.  The FRONT Door Tour will feature a variety of unique residents' homes including townhomes, apartments, condos, and renovated rowhouses, and highlight the Capitol Riverfront as a new residential neighborhood in DC. The FRONT Door Tour will be free and open to the public. 
ULIULI Urban Marketplace Panel
As part of the annual ULI Urban Marketplace event on September 15th, an afternoon panel discussion will focus on the development of the Capitol Riverfront.  Michael Stevens from the BID, along with Michael Darby from Monument Realty, Matt Klein from Akridge, Jacqueline Dupree of jdland.com, and Harriet Tregoning from the DC Office of Planning will speak on the changes in the neighborhood, current and future development, and the importance of the work/live/play environment.  The ULI Urban Marketplace will be held at the Ronald Reagan building; please register online by September 10.  
 
living classrooms2nd Annual A Night at the Yards
Enjoy an evening under the stars at A Night at The Yards, a festive and casual benefit party, hosted by Living Classrooms.  Featuring music by Trombone Shorty, New Orleans jazz band, and food and drinks from a variety of popular DC restaurants including Matchbox, Jordan's 8, Flying Dog Ales, Honest Tea, Cantina Marina, and more!  If your restaurant is interested in participating, please contact Mari Lou Livingood at mlivingood@livingclassroomsdc.org.
