Dalai Lama Concludes Kalachakra Mandala Ceremony in Yards Park
 The Dalai Lama was in Washington D.C. for the Kalachakra for World Peace ceremony from July 6th until the 16th. While much of the ceremony and the creation of the sand mandala took place at the Verizon Center, the Yards Park was selected as the site for an intimate conclusion of the ceremony on July 16.
His Holiness has given the Kalachakra teachings to over 1.5 million people around the world, and this was the 31st time he has given the Kalachakra empowerments since initiating the gatherings in 1954. This was of particular significance is that it was being held in our nation's Capital. The Kalachakra is a rare opportunity to promote the universal values of peace and tolerance. Members of the Capitol Riverfront BID team greeted the Dalai Lama and welcomed him to Yards Park before the ceremony. His visit to the Park was not advertised due to security concerns and came as a pleasant surprise to those visitors in the Park on Saturday.
