Spring has Sprung in the Front

treesSpring has sprung! Enjoy the over 500 daffodils and pansies now blooming along M Street and New Jersey Avenue in the Capitol Riverfront. Also, this spring we are happy to announce that DDOT has planted 67 new trees in the neighborhood.

In addition to the plantings, last weekends Cherry Blossom Family Fun Fest was a wonderful park opening that brought the community back to Yards Park. Although Mother Nature sent a little hail and rain our way during the weekend, flowers are popping up and grass is getting greener every day. Be sure to check out our bright new lamppost banners as well!

Faces of the Front: Latissia C. Vaughn of Suntrust Bank

Faces HeadesLatissia Vaughn, Assistant Branch Manager at Suntrust Bank at 100 M Street, SE, has been working in the community for two years. She loves all the events the Capitol Riverfront puts on, like the lunchtime concert series, but she said "the movie series is my favorite, and the line-up is even better this year." Her favorite places in the neighborhood are the Nationals Stadium, The Yards Park and Justin's Cafe.

latissiaLatissia choose to work in the community because she is from Washington DC, and remembers the area before recent developments. "I am glad to be a part of the growth of this community, as well as seeing the positive changes the BID has made to the neighborhood," Latissia added, "I look forward to living in the community in the near future."

"I think BID stands for more than Business Improvement District, it means 'Beauty in Development' to me," she said. Some of the changes she appreciates are the cleanliness of the neighborhood, and the greeters at the Metro stations. She also thinks the events are great for those who commute to the community to work, and for the residents that live here. Latissia concluded, "The community is great to work in or live in, thanks to the Capitol Riverfront BID - keep up the good work."
