Todd Myerstodd m
Employee, Alion Science and Technology

Todd Myers can't think of a better place to work. To the Director of Operations for Alion Science and Technology, the Capitol Riverfront is a "great location for government consulting and contracting. We're a seven-minute walk from the Navy Yard and our client NAVSEA but we can also jump on the Metro and meet with civilian government agencies and conduct business."

With approximately 500 employees occupying five floors at 1100 New Jersey Avenue, SE, Alion (pronounced "ah-LYE-un") is an employee-owned technology solutions company delivering technical expertise and operational support to the Department of Defense, civilian government agencies and commercial customers. "There are a lot of exciting things happening in this neighborhood. People who haven't come down here in the past year or so really don't know what this neighborhood is all about," he says.

Aside from its business advantages, the strategic location of his office offers Myers a wealth of opportunities - both now and in the future - to savor life in this neighborhood by the river. An avid runner, he enjoys the 2.5 mile loop around the Mall that begins just a few blocks north at the US Capitol. He and his fellow employees love the Wednesday lunchtime concerts and the Thursday night movies. And because of the Front's proximity to major transportation thoroughfares, he has a relatively short commute from his home in Lake Ridge, VA, some 30-35 minutes away.

With an eye toward the Front's future, Myers, who has been working in this neighborhood since 2006, points to an increasing number of new businesses and residents, the construction underway of three new parks, the arrival of a water taxi, and a nice selection of lunch spots either within walking distance or a few minutes ride on Metro, e-cruiser or Circulator bus.

While philosophically enduring last season's ball-playing slump and hoping for a better 2010 season, Myers also believes the home of the Nationals is a wonderful asset of the neighborhood. Myers and other Alion employees participated in a clean-up of the Anacostia River sponsored by the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation that he said energized people. "This is going to be one of the premier places to work and live and it's probably only a few years off."
