AprilthumbMozzelle Isley
Resident, Axiom at Capitol Yards

When Mozzelle Isley moved to Washington in 2009 for a new job, one of the first things on her list of things to do was to find an apartment in a good neighborhood.  Her search took her to Craigslist, newspaper ads and tours of different parts of the city including Columbia Heights, the U Street corridor and the Capitol Riverfront.

"From the freeway, I kept seeing the big signs 'You could be living here'," said the human resource staffing expert who originally hails from Brooklyn, New York.  So she decided to check out the Capitol Riverfront, and fell in love with the neighborhood and an apartment at the Axiom.

"What attracted me to the building was that it is brand new from the appliances to the lounge to the gym and other amenities.  There are lots of other people in their 20s and 30s and I've met a lot of great people," she says.  She enjoys the spirit of the community that she's found in the Front where people in the building gather for taco nights, to watch football playoffs and go to parties in each others' homes.

One other important factor in her decision to move to the Front was her feeling of security.  "When walking around some of the other neighborhoods, I just didn't feel safe.  You're never completely safe in the city but here I feel very comfortable," she says.

Because of the neighborhood's convenient location on Metrorail and bus lines, Isley says she doesn't need a car.  She gets her groceries delivered from nearby grocery stores.  And she is confident that as the neighborhood continues to grow, the things she enjoys about the neighborhood - its convenient location, accessibility and community - will only get better.

"I hear water taxis are coming soon and that will be fabulous to be able to get to National Harbor and other places," Isley says.
