Residents, Capitol Hill Tower to Velocity Condos

To Coast Guard veteran Liam LaRue, life along the Capitol Riverfront is a winning tapestry of change and convenience, underscored by "the promise of building up a kind of forgotten part of town."

A convert to urban living, Liam has lived at Capitol Hill Tower since 2006, and recently joined his fiance in purchasing a new condominium at the nearby Velocity.  A ten-minute walk away from the Capitol, the Front, he says, "meets all our needs."
Topping his list is the convenience of being a two Metro stop trip away from work at the National Transportation Safety Board.  Close behind is the opportunity to take long walks along streetscapes that change from week to week.

And with waterfront green space, parks and trails on the horizon, Liam says he is proud to be at "the forefront of creating a new green-friendly neighborhood."

While a troubled economy has moderated the pace of surrounding change, Liam believes the expected transformation into a destination community is just a few years away.  "The townhouses are going up, and they're going up quickly, so you'll start getting people and families for the retail to follow."

"Once they get all the shops and retail, we won't ever need to leave our slice of downtown, and I like that," he says. "People from other parts of town will want to come down to our neighborhood."
