New Plantings and Rose Bushes
The BID's Clean & Safe Team removed all the rose bushes from the large planters around the neighborhood to get the planters ready for the new seasonal landscaping.  They recycled the 18 rose bushes by planting them in front of Van Ness School, along M Street, and filled in the area with mulch.  New plants and flowers have been planted in the short and tall planters to add more variety and look attractive throughout all the seasons, including Tiger Eyes, Wind Dancer, Grey Owl, Yucca and a variety of annuals/bulbs.

New Circulator Route to Union StationNew Circulator Routes Survey
DDOT has released a map of 10 recommended new Circulator routes after receiving feedback from surveys, panels and town hall meetings.  Two of the recommended routes include extending the Waterfront-Convention Center route east on M Street to the Navy Yard and Nationals Park, and bringing the Union Station-Navy Yard bus up into NoMa, perhaps serving the New York Avenue Metro station.  Rider surveys identified friendly drivers, service frequency and limited stops as the three most-liked aspects of the Circulator.  Other suggested improvements include longer hours and more weekend service, especially on the Union Station-Navy Yard route.  Please visit www.dccirculator.com to learn more and leave your comments.

Mike Heywood

Resident, Axiom at Capitol Yards

heywoodWhen three future roommates went searching for an apartment, all with different needs and wants, they found the Axiom at Capitol Yards offered exactly what they were looking for.  Mike, raised in Mount Pleasant in DC, wanted to move back to DC after graduating from Boston College.  His best friend since 4th grade, Brandon also decided to move back to DC after graduating.  Sean, Mike's friend from college, wanted to move to DC to work for Senator John Kerry.  They were looking for an apartment building with great accessibility that would allow all three to get to their jobs quickly and easily.  With close proximity to Capitol Hill, direct access to 395 and 295, and close to 3 Metro lines, the Axiom's location saves them time lost in long commutes each day.

In addition, coming straight from college and leasing their first apartment, they were looking for a neighborhood with a strong sense of community.  They've met other young professionals in the Capitol Riverfront, especially grilling or just hanging out at the Axiom pool or going to trivia night at Justin's Cafe, one of their favorite spots.  The three roommates have attended countless Nationals games, enjoy tailgating at the Bullpen (just blocks from their doorstep), and "love the convenience of being able to essentially stop by at any time, buy a ticket for 5-10 dollars, and catch a few innings of baseball."

Mike and his roommates have already spent time at the newly-opened Yards Park, enjoying the "direct access to such a nice riverfront area."  They look forward to the development to come but "couldn't be happier with [their] choice of place to live."
