gardensRiver Street Gardens Now Open

 

The River Street Gardens in the Yards Park are now open!  Located on the far east side of the Park, along the boardwalk, the 22,795 SF gardens are heavily landscaped and have winding paths throughout with interesting benches - wall mounted, circular, wooden chaise lounge chairs.  The gardens are a perfect quiet space overlooking the water.  See photos here.  The gardens are also availabe for event rental.  Please contact Kathleen Kruczlnicki at yardspark@capitolriverfront.org to learn more.

uliconvctrULI Tours in Capitol Riverfront
Last week, the Urban Land Institute (ULI) hosted its annual Fall Meeting and Urban Land Expo in Washington, DC with a variety of sessions, meetings, events and tours taking place throughout the city.  The Capitol Riverfront BID hosted six councils including over 300 people for mobile workshops and special interest tours of the neighborhood.  In addition, the Capitol Riverfront BID had several boards displayed and information available at the Washington, DC Economic Partnership's booth at the Convention Center during the ULI Fall Meeting.  
harry's reserveHarry's Reserve
The new wine and beer store in 909 at Capitol Yards, Harry's Reserve plans to open in December, occupying 2,000 SF.  In addition to wine and beer, Harry's will sell a variety of cheeses and other snacks as well as host regular events such as wine tastings.  Currently the owners operate Capital Hill Liquors and Deli at 323 Pennsylvania Ave, SE.  Become a friend of Harry's Reserve on facebook here.   
ghostshipGhost Ship Barry
On Friday, October 29th, step aboard the historic USS Barry at the Washington Navy Yard to experience its transformation into the scary Ghost Ship Barry.  Wander the narrow passageways, explore the many ship rooms, and be spooked at every turn!  The free event is open to children 12 and under from 6 - 7 pm.  It gets more haunted for those 12 and over from 7:30-9:30 pm.  RSVP to 202.433.0280 and enter at the 6th Street, SE gates.  See the flyer here.
modusunionLabels for Love's Parisian Art Salon  
Come for a night of art and philanthropy at Modus Union's Parisian Art Salon in the Lumber Shed at the Yards Park on Thursday, Nov. 4th from 5-10 pm.  Hosted by Labels for Love, Mary Amons' from the Real Housewives of DC's charity, the event will feature 75 artists, live art, 4 musical guests, rare performances as well as food, drinks, pastries and cafe.  The proceeds will benefit Cancer Schmancer, a charity led by Fran Drescher promoting early detection of cancer.  Tickets to the event are $50.  Learn more and purchase tickets here.
nightatyardsA Night at the Yards Re-Cap
Living Classrooms held their annual event A Night at the Yards, now in its third year, at the Lumber Shed in the Yards Park this past Friday night.  The evening featured over 30 local restaurants and caterers providing their signature dishes for guests as well as beer, wine and cocktails.  Some of the participants included Georgetown Cupcake, Matchbox, Hank's Oyster Bar, CAVA, Zest, Cantina Marina and many more.  About 500 attendees enjoyed the food, drinks, silent auction and music by Big Sam's Funky Nation and The Radiators straight from New Orleans.  A Night at the Yards raised critical funds for Living Classrooms of the National Capital Region programming.  The event also supported the Discovery Creek Summer Programs and City Kids Wilderness Project.  See photos here. 
ahalogoStart! Heart Walk Begins at Nats Park
On Saturday, November 6th, Start! Greater Washington Heart Walk sponsored by the American Heart Association begins at Nationals Ballpark.  Festivities begin at 8:30 am at the ballpark with tents set up along Half Street and on the field and the walking kicking of at 10 am.  There are 10 levels of walkers with the minimum level raising $100 to walk.  Learn more here.
