New Construction Activity at 1212 4th Street, SE

  

Earlier today we sighted initial construction activity taking place at 1212 4th Street, SE! 
 
This development will be anchored by a 50,000 square foot Harris Teeter grocery store.  The project at 1212 4th Street, SE, will include 225 residential units, a 30,000 square foot health club and 30,000 square feet of additional retail space. This mixed-use project is part of the planned Phase I development of The Yards project by Forest City Washington.
 
The 1212 4th Street, SE, project is scheduled to be completed between the 4th quarter of 2013 and 1st quarter of 2014.

SE/SW Transportation Study Public Meeting: January 12, 2012

  

On January 12, 2012, DDOT will host the first in a series of public meetings for the M Street SE/SW Transportation Study.  
This study aims to identify existing and future transportation issues along the M Street SE/SW and SE/SW Waterfront areas, including the Capitol Riverfront,
as a part of the larger Anacostia Waterfront Initiative. 
 
This public meeting will provide an overview of the study, outline the schedule and gather public feedback.

Request for Proposals: Yards Park Concert Series Vendors


The Capitol Riverfront BID is seeking proposals from local food, beverage, and booking/management providers for its 2012 Friday Evening Concert Series at the Yards Park.

 

The concert series, now in its second year, attracts a regional audience looking for a place to relax and unwind, spend time with friends and family, and enjoy the river and outdoors on Friday evenings.

Lunchtime concerts will be held in Canal Park this summer beginning in July, and a second RFP for those will be released in early 2012. 

 

Capitol Quarter Phase II Begins Construction on Final Block

 

Take a stroll along 3rd Street, SE between M & L Streets and you'll find the final block of Phase II of the Capitol Quarter townhouses is currently under construction. Phase I is completely sold and occupied. Phase II is nearly sold out, and the remaining 83 homes are expected to be completed by the end of 2012. Homes include affordable rental homes, affordable workforce homes, and market-rate town homes for purchase.

 

All of the units in phase two of Capitol Quarter are being built to LEED for Homes green building standards.

New Neighborhood Restaurant:  Lot 38 Espresso Bar

 

Lot 38 Espresso Bar opened its doors in December 2011, and offers illy espresso and a full coffee bar, as well as gourmet sandwiches and pastries.  

 

Located at the corner of 2nd and L Streets, SE, Lot 38 has friendly owners, an inviting atmosphere, ample seating on a second level upstairs, and also provides free Wi-Fi access.  

 

Lot 38 Espresso Bar is open Monday-Friday from 6:30am - 8pm and on Saturday & Sunday from 7am - 7pm.

DDOT Updates and Video about 11th Street Bridge Project

  

DDOT posted updates about the 11th Street Bridge this week via Twitter:
"Traffic alert: if the weather holds, we expect the new outbound 11th Street Freeway Bridge to open this Saturday."
 
Take note that the new outbound 11th Street bridge span will require drivers looking to access neighborhoods east of the river to take some different routes.
