Capitol Riverfront features Works of Art

Art Yards kicked off yesterday in the Capitol Riverfront, transforming the former NGA building on the corner of M Street, SE and New Jersey Avenue, SE into a temporary canvas before the building is torn down next year.

Local artist Kelly Towles, along with Jasper Wong and Dabs Myla, are adding their unique graffiti and street art creations to the building through mid-December, providing a unique and continuous art experience for visitors.

Notice the paint on the parking lot? That's an emerging new art installation. Michael Kirby of Murals of Baltimore is currently creating 3D street art in the lot beside the building, and on December 7th and 8th children and families will have the chance to create their own street art masterpieces.

Check out the full schedule of events on the Art Yards website.

Congresswoman Norton Launches Re-election Campaign at The Yards

On Saturday, November 9th, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton launched her 13th re-election campaign at the Foundry Lofts in the Capitol Riverfront. BID President Michael Stevens welcomed attendees and described the many contributions that the Congresswoman has made to facilitate economic development in the neighborhood.

The Congresswoman was instrumental in the initial Request for Proposals for the Southeast Federal Center, which is now being redeveloped as The Yards project by Forest City Washington. Mrs. Norton has also sponsored bills that led to site clean-up efforts for parcels such as The Yards Park.
