The Yards Brings New Restaurant to DC

Forest City Washington, the master developer of The Yards in the Capitol Riverfront, and the Altamarea Restaurant Group of New York City have announced that Altamarea's latest location of the successful Osteria Morini restaurant concept will open at The Yards in summer 2013. The BID worked in concert with Forest City, providing data that helped facilitate this important restaurant lease signing.  The Altamarea Group currently consists of six New York-metro-area restaurants and one Hong Kong location by award-winning chef Michael White.

The new 4,250 square foot Osteria Morini will be located in the Lumber Shed, an adaptive reuse building on the northern edge of The Yards Park. It is the first tenant to be announced for the Lumber Shed and the first DC-area location for Chef White and the Altamarea Group.

Featuring the rustic cuisine and convivial spirit of the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy, Osteria Morini is a mid-priced, casual restaurant with lunch and dinner menus featuring innovative pasta dishes, grilled meats, fish and several regional specialties.

At The Yards, Osteria Morini will occupy the southeast corner of the ground floor in the Lumber Shed, offering expansive river and park views from both inside, as well as from its outdoor dining areas on the east and south sides of the building.  With the signing of Osteria Morini, the Lumber Shed is now over 60% leased. The second level will be occupied by the offices of Forest City Washington. Space remains on the building's first floor for additional restaurants/retailers.  To join Osteria Morini in the Lumber Shed, contact Marcie Connolly at connolly@dcyards.com.

A new and exciting concept is making its way to the neighborhood!  Akridge Real Estate Company and Bullpen/Georgetown Events owner Bo Blair have recently announced their plan to create a combination market, food and events space in the lot at M and Half Streets. Fairgrounds will be open seven days a week from the beginning of baseball season through October.

Fairgrounds, which is modeled after Dekalb Market in Brooklyn, will utilize salvaged shipping containers as vendor retail space and permanent food truck versions of DC restaurants Surfside and Bayou.

The venue will also feature an observation deck built on top of the shipping containers, a music stage and several HD televisions for game days.  A variety of events will be held at the Fairgrounds continually throughout the season, including Truckeroo food truck festivals, "Family Days," arts festivals, and farmers' markets.  Fairgrounds will open daily at 11:30 am, and will have extended hours on game days.

Join the Washington Nationals to "Take Back the Park"

The Washington Nationals have started a "Take Back the Park" campaign in order to fill the stadium with Nats fans for the Philly v. Nats 3-day game series May 4-6.

The tickets are on sale now to buyers who can prove a Washington, Maryland or Virginia address. Unless they have second homes in or around the nation's capital, Phillies fans will not be able to buy tickets during this exclusive pre-sale event.

The team is also sending out a notice to season-ticket holders, alerting them about the pre-sale and encouraging them to make sure their tickets stay in the hands of Nats fans when the Phillies visit.  Click here for tickets.

Technology Companies Encouraged to Train Young Residents

Mayor Vincent Gray and Deputy Mayor Victor Hoskins would like to invite technology leaders in the District to participate in this year's "One City" Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) as a host employer.

An information session about SYEP for employers will be held on Wednesday, February 22 from 8:30 am to 10:30 am in Room 301 of the John A.
