BardCelebrate Shakespeare's 451st Birthday This Weekend at Bard in The Yards

Bring your picnic blanket, mask, and even your Renaissance costume to Yards Park this weekend, from Friday, April 24th to Sunday, April 26th, as the Capitol Riverfront BID and Folger Theatre celebrate Shakespeare's 451st Birthday with Bard in the Yards: FREE outdoor screenings of three classic Hollywood tributes to his plays.

Head to the Great Lawn at Yards Park, located at 355 Water Street, SE, for free screenings of some of the most beloved film adaptations of the Bard. Enjoy Kenneth Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing, Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet, and Franco Zeffirelli's The Taming of the Shrew beginning at sundown, between 7:30 and 8:00 pm each night.

Actors from Folger Theatre's production of "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" will be present to introduce the screenings, and area vendors will be on hand to provide refreshments.

BonchonFaces of the Front: Tom An with Bonchon Chicken
Bonchon Chicken opened its newest DC area location in the Capitol Riverfront this spring. Located three blocks from the Nationals Ballpark Center Field Gate on Half Street SE, Bonchon is an excellent lunch, dinner, and pregame or postgame choice with a menu featuring "Asian Fusion" dishes such as Korean fried chicken and bulgogi beef sliders.

We spoke with Bonchon franchise co-owner Tom An recently about why he decided to open Bonchon in the Capitol Riverfront and what visitors can expect from Bonchon's newest location.

Q. How would you describe the Capitol Riverfront to friends and visitors? The Capitol Riverfront is a fast-growing area with a bright future. The area already offers new restaurants, retail, and a vibrant local community with much more on the horizon.

ArrisArris at The Yards Topped Out
This week, with the final pour of concrete for its rooftop pool deck, Forest City Washington and Clark Construction Group, LLC celebrated the topping out of Arris, the third residential building to be developed thus far at The Yards in the Capitol Riverfront.

The 11-story, 327-unit residential community will offer beautifully designed and expansive apartments with some of the best waterfront views in the city, a rooftop pool deck, and 20,000 SF of ground floor retail. Located at 4th and Tingey Streets, SE, Arris will also provide convenient access to the distinctive shopping and dining of the Capitol Riverfront.

On the horizon elsewhere at The Yards, development will begin this summer on a 50-slip public marina as the newest addition to Yards Park. Completion is expected by late 2015. Site work is expected to commence late this year on the parcel directly across 4th Street, SE from Arris for the first for-sale condo building at The Yards. DC-based condo developer PN Hoffman has announced it will develop a ten-floor, 130-unit project on that site. In addition, Forest City has plans to develop a two-building, 190-unit apartment community adjacent to the PN Hoffman condo building. The project will also add another 16,700 square feet of street level retail space.
