AWSFaces of the Front: Lee Cain with the Anacostia Watershed Society
For almost 26 years, the Anacostia Watershed Society (AWS) has led efforts to protect and restore the Anacostia River and its watershed communities in order to make the river and its tributaries swimmable and fishable once again. These efforts include environmental education, stewardship, community engagement, and recreation.

Lee Cain, Director of Recreation at AWS, began working at AWS in 2006 as an environmental educator, and now leads stewardship and recreation programs with local and regional watershed partners. He enjoys kayaking and is always happy to share the secrets of the Anacostia to those who are interested. Read on to find out more about what you can do to help restore the river, and how to enjoy to enjoy the river this summer from Ballpark Boathouse at Diamond Teague Park!

How would you describe the Capitol Riverfront to friends/visitors?

Up and down the Anacostia River we're seeing the river itself become the centerpiece of a thriving community, and in a truly sustainable way. The Capitol Riverfront is one of the best examples of this terrific trend.
