It's the return of Snallygaster! This beer festival, named for the fearsome and toothy mythical beast said to terrorize the region at the turn of the century, will unleash the most sought after selection of beers. It also benefits Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food & Agriculture. This year, in addition to returning to the Capitol Riverfront at a larger and roomier site, Snallygaster will once again set new heights by tapping no fewer than 250 unique craft beers against a backdrop of fine foods from the area's top toques and food trucks, music, entertainment, games, family-fun and more. The event will take place from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm at 1st and N Streets, SE.
Sunday, September 14th

The 5x5 Project is Back!
Take a walk through the Capitol Riverfront and explore public art from now until December of this year. The Capitol Riverfront neighborhood is hosting public art as part of The 5x5 Project at two different sites including Building 170, owned by JBG, in Tingey Square and Canal Park.
The 5x5 Project, an initiative of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH), is an ambitious District-wide program of contemporary, temporary public art dedicated to exploring new perspectives on our city through the lens of five curators.
The exhibit in Canal Park by Kota Ezawa, titled Hand Vote is a visual representation of democracy by one of its most prevalent signifiers: the vote. Hand Vote functions as a monument to the people, a symbol of collective governance.
At Building 170, Glenn Kaino presents a site-specific bridge suspended from the ceiling, engaging the verticality of the vast space. Glenn Kaino's Bridge reads from afar as a golden-slatted rope footbridge, though closer inspection reveals that the "slats" are in the form of a familiar arm, not quite recognizable out of context. The slats are made from a contemporary cast of athlete Tommie Smith's limb, made an iconic symbol of Black Power in 1968 when Smith, aged 24, won first place in the 200-meter Olympic Race in Mexico City.
Like what you see? The Capitol Riverfront BID wants to see too! Post your best photo of your favorite 5x5 art exhibit in the Capitol Riverfront on Twitter or Instagram, and be sure to include @capitolriverfront and #5x5dc in the caption. Best photo will win a Bluejacket gift card!

Inaugural Dîner en Blanc Washington Recap
Surprise! The top-secret location for the District's inaugural Dîner En Blanc was none other than the Capitol Riverfront's very own Yards Park.
A pleasant breeze from the river greeted the 1,400 guests, traveling on foot from all over the city, bedecked in white fashions from wedding dresses to wigs, with picnics and elaborate table-settings. Diners were serenaded by a French-inspired band on the boardwalk, and the evening was crowned with a DJ-spun dance party lit with iconic white sparklers.
This elaborate tradition began in Paris 25 years ago, and now has 100,000 members and nearly 40 events per year worldwide. Congratulations to Justin Ross of Justin's Café, Linda Davis, and Bryer Davis for bringing this distinguished event to Washington, DC. The Capitol Riverfront was thrilled to be its first host location!
