Schedule of EventsYards Park Grand Opening Weekend Celebration and Dedication Ceremony 
On Tuesday September 7th a dedication ceremony was held to mark the opening of the 5.5 acre Yards Park located on the riverfront of the Anacostia River.  The ceremony was attended by Mayor Fenty, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, DC Council Chairman Vincent Gray, Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells, and over 100 people from the Capitol Riverfront community.  The Yards Park will serve as the heart of Forest City Washington's 42 acre Yards development.  View images from the dedication ceremony here.  Learn more about The Yards development here. 
 
This weekend September 10th-12th come enjoy DC's new riverfront destination at The Yards Park Grand Opening Celebration.  View a map and complete schedule of events here.  The weekend festivities include a variety of live bands on the Boardwalk Stage, Trapeze School demonstrations, face painters, balloon hat and henna tattoo artists, free Vida fitness classes, ArtWhino art showcase, children's arts & crafts, silk screening, food trucks and vendors, beer gardens, fireworks and much more!  Events begin Friday, Sept. 10th at 3:30 pm with live jazz bands and the opening of ArtWhino's Beautiful Minds exhibit in the lumbershed.  Friday night bands include Ursula 1000, Second City and Federico, all under the Eighteenth Street Lounge label.  Festivities continue on Saturday with Vida fitness classes, children's activities and more live performances on the Boardwalk Stage. We look forward to seeing you in the park this weekend.
Canal Park Breaks Ground
The official groundbreaking ceremony for Canal Park was held on Tuesday, August 31st.  The ceremony marks the beginning of initial site work with construction on the park expected to take 12-14 months for a 4Q 2011 completion.  The 3-block park will feature an ice skating rink, restaurant pavilion, water features, sculptures, children's area, a great lawn and other amenities.  Canal Park will be a model of environmental sustainability incorporating features such as storm water management systems to capture and reuse water from surrounding buildings, geothermal heating and cooling, and electric vehicle charging stations.  The restaurant pavilion is expected to achieve LEED gold or platinum certification.  Have a restaurant concept and want to lease the park's 3,000 SF restaurant space?  Contact Wayne Dickson Here.
