Safety & Hospitality

Goals

Increase public perception of safety and hospitability throughout the BID.

Establish Safety and Hospitality Ambassadors to be "eyes and ears" in the BID; assist with emergencies; pleasantly greet passersby, knowledgeably answer questions, and provide directions.

Provide enhanced safety and hospitality services on Nationals’ baseball game days.

Partner with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and private security staff in buildings to coordinate safety presence and communications.

Programs

Public Safety and Hospitality Personnel - The Capitol Riverfront BID will provide a team of uniformed (and unarmed), radio-equipped and trained Safety and Hospitality Ambassadors. These additional "eyes and ears" on the street will provide active monitoring of and reporting on the public realm; greet passersby, knowledgeably answer questions, and provide directions or other information.

Services on Baseball Game Days - The BID plans to partner with the Nationals’ baseball organization and the DC Government to coordinate Safety and Hospitality Ambassador services for Nationals’ home baseball games. Priority areas will be identified in the appropriate areas surrounding the Ballpark, parking lots and Metro stations.

Improved Safety Resources and Coordination - The Capitol Riverfront BID will partner with the MPD and private security officers to provide additional resources and to communicate with officers through radio contact when crime situations occur.

Maintaining Public Order - Priority will be given to the enforcement of existing ordinances that deal with anti-social behavior and unauthorized activities in order to protect the collective rights of the public as well as individual rights. BID Ambassadors and Clean Teams will be trained regarding these ordinances and available to report on conditions.

Property Manager Council - The Capitol Riverfront BID will coordinate meetings of property managers at least once each quarter to discuss relevant topics.
