Things to See and Do

Anacostia Boathouse - Canoe, row, kayak and even dragon boat through a variety of programs for beginners to experts.

Barracks Row - Shop, dine and enjoy the successful Barracks Row Main Street district, a neighborhood commercial corridor from the 1700s that includes over 20 local and national restaurants and stores.

Walking Museum of Transportation - Learn the history of transportation around the outside of the new U.S. DOT building through creative panels, life-size elements of transportation, historical facts, sculptures and more. The U.S. DOT building was designed by internationally renowned architect Michael Graves and has a 68,000 sq ft green roof, one of the largest green roofs on the east coast.

Earth Conservation Corps - This nonprofit service organization works with at-risk youth to clean up the Anacostia River and develop job skills. Join in a River Patrol or volunteer for a River clean-up day. The organization has two facilities within the BID located on the Anacostia River.

 

Farmers Market - Shop for farm-fresh produce, baked goods and more every Tuesday between 10 am and 2 pm at the intersection of 3rd & M St, between the U.S. DOT buildings.  Market opens May 6, 2008 

Five Guys - Enjoy the famous Five Guys burgers and fries, Zagat rated ‘best bang for your buck’.

 

Nationals Park  - Come see a ballgame at the new Nationals Park.  A list of games is available on the BID calendar

Navy Yard Museum — Explore ship to shore at the free Navy Museum’s exhibits, lectures, programs, and events for the whole family. The museum contains scale models of ships commissioned by the Navy, interactive exhibits, and Navy ship docked for tours.
