Description
The U.S. Navy Museum announces “Girls Make History Day,” featuring activities based upon the historic characters of the American Girl Book Series, beginning at 10:00 AM on June 26, 2010 at the U.S. Navy Museum. Families are invited to join U.S. Navy Museum employees and volunteers as they encourage children, especially young ladies, ages 5-13 to take an interest in American naval and maritime history using activities based on the American Girl series. The characters that will be showcased include Felicity Merriman and Elizabeth Cole (Revolutionary War), Kirsten Larson (side-wheel steamer), Addy Walker (Civil War), Samantha Parkington (Great White Fleet), Rebecca Rubin (World War I), Kit Kittredge (Great Depression), and Molly McIntire and Emily Bennett (World War II).
Valerie Tripp, author of the Josefina, Felicity, and Molly series and three books in the Samantha series, will be on-hand to greet fans and sign books. Please RSVP by phone (202) 433-6826 or email nhhcedudept.fct@navy.mil to ensure that we have enough materials on hand to accommodate everyone. Prizes will be given to anyone who chooses to dress as their favorite character, and girls are invited to bring their dolls. There will also be a raffle to give away a free American Girl Doll. Participants must register to be eligible for this raffle.
"Girls Make History Day" is not affiliated with or sponsored by Mattel, Inc. or American Girl Brands, LLC.
