Hatoba's Chef Katsuya Fukushima

Hatoba Executive Chef and partner Katsuya Fukushima's style of cooking is rooted in his heritage and personality. Fukushima has been on the DC culinary scene for 17 years and is excited to be in Capitol Riverfront with Hatoba, the third Sapporo-style ramen shop from the Daikaya Group.

How would you describe the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood to friends/visitors?

I like to think of Capital Riverfront as a more modern and family-oriented version of the Georgetown waterfront. 

What do you love about working at The Yards in Capitol Riverfront?

Besides being walking distance from my house, I really love that Capitiol Riverfront has a very tight knit neighborhood vibe.

What is your favorite place in the neighborhood?

I really enjoy Osteria Morini. The staff there is fantastic.

What’s your favorite dish at Hatoba to warm up on a cold day?

ANY of our delicious Sapporo-style ramen options - ALL DAY, with a side of our gyoza too!

And for those days when you want to kick back and relax, what’s your go-to drink at the restaurant?

We always have a unique cocktail on draft, but our canned beverage program offers something for everyone: hot tea, soft drinks, wine, beer, etc.

The warmer weather will be upon us before we know it. Can you give us a glimpse of what the spring/summer menu at Hatoba will look like? 

Two words: Hiyashi Chuka (cold ramen)!

What should readers know about Hatoba's Happy Hour.

In Japan we say Kanpai! (Cheers!). Hatoba offers a fantastic Happy Hour Monday through Friday including $2 off draft beers and draft cocktails as well as $1 off our delicious donburi/rice bowls. And once the weather warms up a bit later this spring and summer, our outdoor patio space will be dog-friendly. We'd also love to offer Front Page News e-blast subscriber a treat on the house!
