Capitol Riverfront Photography Contest

The Capitol Riverfront BID is calling photography enthusiasts across the DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area to submit your professional, Instagram-worthy images to the Capitol Riverfront Photography Contest for a chance to celebrate the neighborhood in your own unique way. The contest - a creative opportunity for DMV locals to strut your photography skills - will culminate in a photo exhibit celebration where 36 images selected from the pool of submissions will be framed and publicly displayed in the neighborhood. What's more, each bracket will feature cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Participants may submit a single high-resolution image of the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood showcasing nature, architecture and design, or lifestyle-inspired images; and photos will be judged by a panel comprised of community officials.

Participants will be required to place their submissions in either the Amateur or Professional brackets to be considered for first, second, and third place prizes prizes.

Submission instructions and criteria:

  • Send a single high-resolution image to info@capitolriverfront.org indicating your name and submission bracket (Amateur or Professional). Submissions will not be accepted through social media platforms.
  • Include Capitol Riverfront Photography Contest in the subject box. 
  • Participants must live in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area and are required to submit their home zip code in the body of the submission email.
  • Participants submitting to the professional bracket are required to submit proof of their photography portfolio i.e a website or social media page which showcases their work.
  • Entries will be accepted until September 2.

Bracket definitions and prizes:

Amateur - A participant who is considered "beginner-friendly" will not have professional photography experience and chooses to take pictures for fun or has a passion for photography.

  • First place - $500
  • Second place - $250 
  • Third place - $100

Professional - Participants in this category will have years of experience taking professional photographs where they have or use high-quality camera equipment.

  • First place - $1,000
  • Second place - $500
  • Third place - $250

Rules and fine print:

Photo submissions will be accepted through September 2, 2022 and must be taken within the neighborhood during that time period. *Please note that the Capitol Riverfront BID has the rights to all images submitted, to be utilized in collateral materials and for digital use.
