Alabama native Liz Bogie enjoys both living and working in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood. A 909 Capitol Yards resident since 2012, Liz is also the communications director for Georgetown Events, parent company of Due South in The Yards.

Why did you choose the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood as your DC home?

My husband Justin and I decided to move to the Capitol Riverfront in 2012 because of the sparkling apartment buildings that were full of amenities. Another perk was that it was still close enough to work to
walk, but far enough away so we could unplug and recharge.

How would you describe the Capitol Riverfront to friends and visitors?

The Capitol Riverfront is a delightful neighborhood that is becoming one of the most popular places to live in the city. Its walkability is second to none with new parks, restaurants, shops, gyms, salons, and countless other retailers within a few square blocks. If you love dogs, the Capitol Riverfront is the place to be because everybody has one! Head to Yards Park and you’ll see folks out walking their furry friends at any given time. They always brighten my day!

What has been the most significant change you’ve seen in the neighborhood since you moved here?

When we first moved here, my husband and I basically had to make a Harry’s Reserve run, open up “Bogie’s Bar & Grill,” and invite friends over to grill out on our pool deck. Four years later, we are simply astounded at the endless food and entertainment possibilities in the neighborhood. “Bogie’s Bar & Grill” is still in operation, though not nearly as frequently as it was four years ago!

Tell us what your favorite dishes are at Due South.

My three favorite things are the squash puppies with jalapeno aioli, the fried chicken sandwich with slaw on a brioche
bun, and my absolute favorite entree has to be the shrimp and grits. It tastes like home!

What are your favorite Capitol Riverfront spring and summer events?

I may be a bit biased as a Georgetown Events employee, but I am really looking forward to the Bullpen/Half Street
Fairgrounds opening up for its LAST season! It’s the perfect place to meet up with friends before Nats games, and
Truckeroo is always a ton of fun for foodies like me.

Use one word to describe the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood.

Dynamic.
