Riverwalk Trail

Along Anacostia Riverfront

Visit Website

Status of Project: Existing and more sections completed through 2014

A continuous 16-mile trail on both sides of the Anacostia River, the Riverwalk Trail System is a new recreational amenity and transportation alternative.  The 10-12 foot wide trail is designed for a wide range of users-from cyclists to runner and skaters to walkers-and also provides seating, system maps, bike racks, and interactive maps.  The riverwalk trail has been constructed and is open from Benning Road to the 11th Street bridges on the north side of the river.  The trail has also been constructed behind the Washington Navy Yard but is not currently open to the public.  Open completion of the adjacent Yards Park, the goal is to eventually open the section behind the Navy Yard to offer a continuous linkage to the rest of the riverwalk trail.  You can view a map of existing and future sections of the trail here.
