Riverwalk Trail
Along Anacostia Riverfront
Status of Project: Existing and more sections completed through 2014
A continuous 20-mile trail on both sides of the Anacostia River, the Riverwalk Trail System is a new recreational amenity and transportation alternative. The 10-12 foot wide trail is designed for a wide range of users-from cyclists to runner and skaters to walkers-and also provides seating, system maps, bike racks, and interactive maps. The riverwalk trail has been constructed and is open from Benning Road to the 11th Street bridges on the north side of the river. The trail has also been constructed behind the Washington Navy Yard. The Navy Yard's section of the trail is open to the public except when closed as needed by the Navy for various temporary security concerns. The trail continues on the 1/4 mile board walk in front of the Yards Park. Additionally, with the completion of the trail's connection between Yards Park and Diamond Teague Park in November of 2011, there is now a continuous 1 mile of riverwalk trail open to the public in the Capitol Riverfront. You can view a map of existing and future sections of the trail here. Also, you can view more information on the section of the riverwalk trail behind the Navy Yard here.
